Computer Crimes

Computer Crimes are crimes that have to do with a computer and network and are defined as "offenses that are commiteed against individuals or groups of individuals with a crominal motive to interntionally harm the reputation of the victim or cause physical or mental harm to the victim directly or indirectly using networks like chatrooms, emails, notice boards and groups, and or text (sms/mms) all on the internet.  A computer can be the target or can be used for the crimes.  Netcrimes refers to criminal exploitation of the internet.  A cyber crime might threaten a nations security and financial health and issues that surround this type of crime have become high-profile, those surrounding copyright, child pornography, and child grooming.  There are privacy problemswhen confidential information is lost or intercepted, lawfully or otherwise.  The government and non-state actors engage in cybercrimes that include financial theft, espionage, and other cross-border crimes.  When activity crosses international border and involving the internet of at least one nationstate is sometimes referred to as cyberwarfare.  The international legal system is attempting to hold actors accountable for their actions through the International Criminal Court.

Cyber crimes should be stopped.  I think that if they make the internet security a little bit better they can find out who does computer crimes and they could stop them.  Like for instance making websites like Facebook and MySpace safer so that so many people are not being stalked and harrassed by others.  So kids dont put out rumors of other kids from there school and make up fake facebook pages talking about others.

New Cyber Piracy Law

A bill that will protect individuals from being victimized by cyber pirates who register the domain names of other people.  Its unfair to register the domain name of another person with the intent to destroy them in a bad way.  The law is supposed to make simple statement that a person should not have to pay a person who stole their name to get it back.  They are making a protection for names that are not trademarked and the names promising newcomers who may  not meet the federal sufficiency famous standards but their names might get pirated.  The law makes it illegal to cyber squat on any names until the person whose name is being used has to offer money for their site.  Courts can now order violations to restore money or property acquired by such practices and can order a fine of $2,500 per incident.  They passed the bill without votes by Legislative.

I believe that the court is right to set this law due to wrong doing to their site. They shouldnt have to pay any money to have thier own site not violated.  These cyber pirates need caught and need to stop all of this.  To order a fine to the cyber pirates for violation is whats right.

Cyber Squatting.. a bried description.

Cyber Squatting are people who register names of trademarks and domain names to corporations for profit.  Cyber Squatters own most URL's that companies would associate with their business.

Cyber Squatters shouldnt be able to own all websites or most because these websites need to be for business use than to scam someone to pay for their websites.
